This PhD Scholarships has a fixed term of 36 months, but it may be extended in some circumstances to 48 months as successful candidates will receive a gross salary of EUR 38.028,96 for every PhD at the UL (full time). The university has three faculties and three interdisciplinary centers spread across three campuses. However, there are three faculties: Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FESS), Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance (FDEF), and Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) (FHSE).

The university offers 950 doctoral candidates 17 bachelor’s degrees, 46 master’s degrees, 14 trilingual degrees, 48 bilingual degrees, 23 entirely English-taught degrees, and doctoral education based on the Bologna Accords.

  • A curriculum vitae;
  • Copies of university degrees (to the extent possible, please include university transcripts and official details of class rank);
  • A research proposal linked to the topic(s) advertised (2000 words-long, containing an explanation of the topic, its scientific background and why the applicant considers it to be important; a research question and the specific aim of the research proposal; methodology; timeline for completion, and a short bibliography);
  • Two letters of recommendation by professors familiar with the applicant’s academic legal training commenting on the applicant’s ability to conduct academic research;
  • Proof of language proficiency in English and / or French if those languages are not the mother tongue of the applicant.
