There is an atmosphere of uncertainty right now regarding the resumption to schools. And to be sincere, while students are getting really frustrated, parents and teacher are also being affected. However, all tertiary students should pay close to this piece of information. I know the question on my People’s mind is ‘why has school not yet been reopened when markets and churches have been allowed to open?’
Well, i hope this can answer that question because while different states are bracing up towards resumption, some unions are still not in support of it. Most of us are aware that the president of the Academic Staff Union Of Universities, ASUU, Biodun Ogunuemi, earlier said that schools should only be opened when considered safe for students and lecturers. And now, I seems the Academic Staff Union of polytechnics, ASUP, have also sided with ASUU.
In an interview on Tuesday, the president of ASUP, Anderson Ezeibe made the position of the union known. He said that there is no need to be emotional about resumption stating that schools were closed down because of the safety of students and teachers. He further noted that significant steps have not been taken by the government in tertairy institutions between march and now. Saying that there was no need to shut down schools if schools will be reopened now. Mr Ezeibe, however, said the polytechnic lecturers are not ready to expose themselves to risks.
So do you think Mr. Ezeibe is right and do you think it’s still not safe to reopen schools? Please comment so I can know what you think and I will surely reply back. Don’t forget to follow me, like and share. Thanks.
