The Federal Government of Nigeria through its Ministry of Education has disclosed that it is set to engage first class and second class upper graduates as teachers.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono, made this known on Saturday, November 14, in Abuja while monitoring the conduct of the 2020 October Diet Batch B Teachers’ Professional Qualifying Examinations, (PQE).

Echono also said that teachers without requisite qualifications, competencies and practicing license are presently migrating out of the Nigerian Teaching Service.

In his words:-

“By 2021, we will not engage teachers if they don’t meet particular threshold, we are now limiting entry point of teaching only to the best who are qualified, we will engage individuals with second class upper and first class divisions.”

  1. good one, create job, if there is enough job, those that will be applying for teaching job will be those who do it for passion not because dey don’t have job

  2. Trash, those first class and second class graduates are far much better than you, instead of giving them more lucrative job you are here promising nonsense. If there is no more lucrative job in Nigeria, then you guys should resign from the one you are holding now and pave way for our outstanding youths. WE MOVE

  3. This is underemployment how will skilled and seasoned first class and second class upper graduates be offered a teaching job when they have the capability to work in large set ups and move the country forward, this is so uncalled for

  4. This is non-sensical. You believe in grades, whereas most graduates, who came out with first class & second class upper can’t defend their results, because some of them cut corners.
But,you decided to ignore graduates who did not meet up to the standard grade.
This is really disheartening, because many graduates whom you disregarded as a results of their low grades are the ones striving hard but due to some challenges they encountered at school(e.g financial issues, failure to compromise to some lecturers seduction or tricks of taking advantage of them, health issues, etc) they end up getting low grades.
