A former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, has said that the country is afflicted with the plague of bad governance emanating from visionless leaders elected into public offices.

Jega, who conducted the 2015 general elections, spoke in Lagos during the first memorial lecture in honour of the first civilian Governor of Lagos, late Alhaji Lateef Jakande, as organised by Federal Social Democrats (FSD).

The former INEC Chairman who participated in the lecture virtually described Nigerian leaders as greedy citizens who are desperate for either power or money.

According to him, democracy in Nigeria is in trouble owing to a lack of selfless and patriotic leadership across the three tiers of government in the country.

He noted that Nigeria would only exit the current security and economic challenges when there are selfless and visionary leaders.

He said,

“We must first and foremost acknowledge that Nigeria has been afflicted by the misfortune of having characters in governance who are neither selfless nor visionary, who are rather greedy whether for power or money who are essentially clueless about matters of governance and reckless in the way they handle governmental affairs and consolidators of bad democratic governance.”

    1. That is the plan is the plan truth jega all the Nigerian lesrders are really visionless all they care about is their self and how to make money through corruption while all the citizens of the country are suffering in abject poverty, thanks for the update

  1. Hey Mr. Chairman, why are you saying that. Are you not one of the people that brought this ill-fated government to power? You should be ashamed of yourself. You played the innoble roll in 2015 to rigge the election for him.
You are part of the problems of this country.

  2. He just did his job as unbiased umpire, Prof. Jega was never the problem, and I do not want to believe he collaborate to rig 2015 election. We must critically look at the circumstances at that time.

*The virgin birth of Christ is one of the mysteries that would continue to pose a puzzle to those who want to understand the things of God through their natural knowledge. Those who know their God do not have any difficulty in understanding that the Son of God was made flesh.*

*That means that Jesus took on the very nature of man in order to interact with man. The Old Testament prophets foretold His incarnation as they portrayed Him as the coming Messiah who would take away the sin of the world.*

*Christ in His earthly ministry maintained both divinity and humanity. He was God because He forgave sin and was worshipped. He was human because He felt hungry, slept and lived among mortals – What a mystery!*

*Our Christian faith is rooted in Christ’s incarnation, priesthood and mission to redeem us. His incarnation therefore should make all Christian youths to appreciate the sacrifice of Christ to save humanity from sin because without His incarnation, He would not have been able to save humanity through a literal crucifixion on the cross.*
