Nigeria has lost N24.72billion ($60.14million) in ten days to the microblogging and social networking service, Twitter, ban in Nigeria, according to NetBlocks Cost of Shutdown Tool.

Nigeria loses N102.9million ($250,600) every hour due to the Twitter ban that took effect on June 5, 2021.

Recall that the Minister of information and Tourism, Lai Mohammed, had earlier this month announced the indefinite suspension of Twitter’s operations in Nigeria.

Mohammed said the Federal Government was forced to act because of “the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.”

The suspension of Twitter has continued to spark widespread outrage, with many Nigerians condemning the move.

Last week, the US Mission in Nigeria urged President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to reverse the Twitter ban because 40million Nigerians use the platform.

Top American official, Samantha Power, conveyed the message, saying: “There are nearly 40 M Twitter users in #Nigeria, and the country is home to Africa’s largest tech hub.”

The Federal Government also directed the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to start the process of licensing all OTT and social media operations.

NBC was also ordered to force broadcast stations – Television and Radio – to stop using Twitter or face the consequences.

The actions are being criticized by Nigerians, countries, local and international organizations.

  2. Arise o compatriots, Nigeria’s call obey to serve our fathers land with love and strength and Faith the labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain to serve with heart and might one Nation bound in freedom peace and unity.

  3. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that Nigeria needs more leaders who are proactive and prepared to bring the country together.

He said this in Lagos on Sunday during a courtesy visit to the palace of Oniru of Iruland, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, on the occasion of the monarch’s first coronation anniversary.

Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, revealed this via a statement titled, ‘Nigeria needs leaders prepared to unite Nigerians, Osinbajo says at Oniru’s One Year Coronation Anniversary’.

While extolling the Oba for his leadership to the inhabitants of Iruland who hail from diverse socio-ethnic backgrounds, Osinbajo said, “Our country needs all the leaders, the best leaders, the most proactive leaders, leaders prepared to bring the country together.

“Lagos is a microcosm of Nigeria, everybody is here, if things work out well here, things will be okay in the country.

“I am sure your role here is that of someone who brings together communities not just Yorubas, but everybody. And I can see that from your choice of chiefs, you have gone to other parts, and I think this is the attitude of great leaders.”

The Vice President added that it is impossible to relegate traditional rulers because of the exposure and education of those who occupy those positions today.

In his remarks, the Oniru of Iruland thanked the Vice President for his leadership and commitment to the progress of the country.

“You are a leader whose direction we will continue to follow. The relationship between the Vice President and I has been very cordial.

“I want to assure you, Mr. Vice President, that I will not disappoint you, I will ensure the progress of this kingdom and I will be just.”

How Twitter Rejected Nigerian Govt’s Request To Delete Nnamdi Kanu’s Account

    ByClimaxtrend
    JUN 16, 2021

The Federal Government has revealed that Twitter rejected its request to take down the account of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

The country’s Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, stated this while speaking on “Politics Nationwide”.

Mohammed said it was unfair to conclude that Twitter was suspended in the country because President Muhammadu Buhari’s message was deleted.

He accused Twitter of consistently offering its platform to promote agendas that were inimical to the corporate existence of Nigeria, adding that the government was unambiguous that the action was taken because the platform was being used to promote the views of those who wanted to destabilize the clime.

“Twitter has become a platform of choice for a particular separatist promoter.

“The promoter consistently used the platform to direct his loyalists to kill Nigerian soldiers and policemen, run-down INEC offices, and destroy all symbols of Nigeria’s sovereignty.

“Every attempt to persuade Twitter to deny its platform to this separatist leader was not taken serious,” he said.

Dr Benjamin Eniayewun, Permanent Secretary of the Commission, gave this charge as he led a nine-man delegate on an assessment tour of public health facilities in line the Hospitals’ Transformation Support Initiative. Eniayewun said the initiative was proffered by health providers as an aid to qualitative delivery that was measurable with international best medical practices. “The healthcare business is growing exponentially in a more competitive sphere.

“With the advent of the Lagos State Health Scheme and decline in out-of-pocket payments, it has become more necessary to strategically manage stakeholders’ needs being highlighted by various hospitals towards
