Former England midfielder, Joe Cole, has said that in Romelu Lukaku, Chelsea now have a “genious” in their squad who will finish off chances.

Lukaku netted the only goal as the Blues began their Champions League campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Zenit St Petersburg on Tuesday.

It was his fourth goal in four matches since returning to Stamford Bridge in a £98million deal from Inter Milan.

Cole admitted that Lukaku was not at his best against Zenit, but said his clinical nature makes him the perfect man to lead the line under Thomas Tuchel.

“I’m going to throw this out there, I think he’ll be top scorer in the Champions League this season.

“Lukaku didn’t even have one of his better games, he was a little bit scruffy but he’s a finisher now, a killer. Once that ball was delivered there was only going to be one winner, he’s a great finisher,” Cole said on BT Sport.

  3. Former Inter striker, Diego Milito, has urged Chelsea striker, Romelu Lukaku, not to promise what he can’t deliver.

Milito said this ahead of Inter Milan’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid on Wednesday night.

Lukaku returned to Chelsea in the summer but Milito was not impressed, insisting that Inter Milan fans are disappointed in the 28-year-old’s loyalty before joining the English Premier League, EPL, giants.

“As for Lukaku, there is one thing you should never do: promise what you can’t deliver,” Milito told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“It’s normal for a player to leave and go somewhere else, but the fans are disappointed with his declarations of loyalty before joining Chelsea.”

  4. Last season Chelsea won the champions League with a lame Timo Werner, I can not imagine the team with addition of Romelu Lukaku, the instinct killer. Chelsea will be too hot to handle this season. Up blues!
