Germany legend, Lothar Matthaus has identified Chelsea’s Jorginho as the convincing candidate to win the Ballon d’ Or this year ahead of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi and Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski.

Jorginho was recently named among 30-man nominees for this year’s Ballon d’ Or.

The Italy international will battle Salah, Messi, Lewandowski, among others, for the Ballon d’ Or.

“What Klopp’s superstar Salah has been delivering for a few months is, of course, absolutely world-class,” Matthaus told Sky Sport via Football365.

“It’s quite possible that this will help him a lot in his choice of world footballer. But that wasn’t the case for the whole year. In the spring, he and Liverpool had serious problems.

“Candidate Jorginho from Chelsea has been convincing for almost the entire last season and played a key role in winning the Champions League and the European Championship with Italy.

“He is not as spectacular as Lewandowski, whom I personally keep my fingers crossed for the most. This time, however, he lacks the international title.

“Messi won the Copa America with Argentina but achieved nothing great with Barcelona.”

The winner of the 2021 Ballon d’ Or will be announced on November 29.

    1. Manchester United have accepted that their midfielder, Paul Pogba, will leave the Red Devils on a free transfer at the end of the season, ESPN reports.

Man United’s hierarchy have felt for several months that Pogba would not sign a new contract at Old Trafford and are now resigned to losing him on a free transfer next summer.

The report added that the Premier League giants will not be looking to secure a transfer fee for the 28-year-old by selling him in the January window, and are planning to keep the midfielder for the remainder of the season.

Man United are also said to be already making plans for Pogba’s exit and will strengthen their midfield options next summer.

Pogba has entered the final year of his contract at Man United and has so far failed to agree on a new deal with the club.

The France international has drawn the interest of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain in the past.

Speaking on Pogba’s future earlier this week, the player’s agent, Mino Raiola said:
