Arsenal vs Newcastle: Arteta reveals decision on Pepe’s future

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has said the club will not entertain offers for Nicolas Pepe during the January transfer window.

Pepe has struggled to live up to expectations since he arrived at Emirates Stadium in a record-breaking £72 million move from Lille during the summer of 2019.

However, the Ivorian winger has played for only 122 minutes in the Premier League since the start of October.

It has led to speculations that Arsenal will look to cut their losses and reinvest in other players.

But ahead of Saturday’s game against Newcastle, Arteta told reporters: “No, and it is not the moment to talk about that either. We are interested in Nico performing at the level that he can do.

“He had some really good moments since I have been here, some moments where he hasn’t participated that much, like everybody else.”

  6. I think what we have to realise early on is this guy is not a team builder. He is a system builder. A philosophy builder. He sets the standard for how top sides should prepare themselves as individuals and then as a unit working together. Preparing the groundwork and getting the proper foundations in before the most suitable contractor is brought in to build on there. So looking at his appointment as a 6 month gig the reaction would and should be whaaat.!!! But looking at it as a huge liner way off course and sending out a navigator to steer her home, then it makes sense. Returning Manchester United to a proper football ethos and maintaining her there, thats his job, and for that he is well qualified.
