EPL: Lampard names two Chelsea players who had adaptation issues

Former Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard has identified Kai Havertz and Timo Werner as the Blues players who had adaptation issues when they newly joined the West London club.

According to Lampard, Havertz and Werner were ‘shocked’ by the intensity of the Premier League after arriving at the club in the summer of 2020.

Climaxtrend reports that Havertz and Werner struggled under Lampard when they newly joined Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig respectively.

However, both Germans have become vital to Chelsea’s style of play under manager, Thomas Tuchel.

Speaking to Manchester United legend, Gary Neville, on The Overlap, Lampard explained how his two signings endured adaptation issues upon arriving in England.

“With Timo [Werner] and Kai [Havertz], there were clearly going to be adaptation issues. I know that from being in it because they were shocked at the speed of training, they were shocked by the physical demands of the game,” Lampard said.

“Pretty much any player goes through those periods. Timo and Kai had that in the early days, Kai had terrible COVID as well which set him back quite a lot.

“Timo was a big [signing] because Liverpool wanted him, Manchester United were in for him. We knew there were three or four big clubs [trying to sign him] so when I spoke to Timo I knew I had to be on my game to try and get him to come.”
