Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel did not ask the club to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder, Saul Niguez for him, according to Cadena SER.
Niguez was brought, in what many people saw as a surprise season-long loan from Atletico Madrid on the final day of the summer transfer window.
However, the Spain International has not been able to meet expectations at Stamford Bridge, making just five appearances for the west Londoners this season.
Spanish outlet, Cadena SER says that the Blues’ boss had not planned to sign Saul in the summer window and the move was done as a “favour” for the player’s representatives.
According to the report, Saul’s parent club, Atletico Madrid already knows that Thomas Tuchel’s side do not want to take up their option of making the loan deal permanent for £34 million next summer.
However, Saul still has the opportunity to convince Chelsea boss Tuchel that he is good enough to secure a regular role in the club.
But he faces even more competition in the Chelsea midfield following the impressive recent performances from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley.
The Spaniard only completed his first 90 minutes since moving to Stamford Bridge in the win over Southampton in the Carabao Cup last month.
