The Jigawa State Government says it has introduced another way of paying the retirees their benefits to ease their sufferings.
This was stated by the new Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme, Alhaji Kamilu Aliyu, while addressing the beneficiaries on the payment of October retirees.
Climaxtrend reported that Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar had sacked Hashim Ahmad Fagam for allegedly sponsoring protest over APC local Government Congress and replaced him with Alhaji Kamilu Aliyu.
According to the new pension board boss, the scheme will henceforth be paying retirees monthly unlike previous arrangements where the scheme is paying the retirees quarterly.
“Whenever the number of those who retired reached 150 to 200 in a month, we will, therefore, process all their entitlements and pay them,” he said.
He explained that the aim was to reduce their sufferings and overcome crowd whenever the scheme was making the payments.
According to him, two hundred (200) Civil servants retired from service for the month of October and they were paid N331,698,679.62 as their benefits.
“Forty-seven beneficiaries from the state service will be paid N99,709,300.88 as retirement benefit; 52 from the local council will be paid N72,653,344.43; while 22 from LEAs will be paid N26,756,781.76.
“For death benefit, 15 retirees from the state will get N38,721,150.32; 14 from local councils will be paid N27,270,456, while 18 from LEAs will get N47,645,102.
“For death pension balance, nine beneficiaries from the State will be paid N9,184,100.32, six from local councils will be paid N1,613,361.61 while five from LEAs will be paid N6,895,301.26.
“Also, for a refund of eight per cent contribution, 12 beneficiaries from the State will be paid N1,249,781.04,” Aliyu said.
He also assured that the scheme would continue to ensure prompt payment of retirement benefits when due.
